Universality of cauliflower-like fronts: from nanoscale thin films to macroscopic plants

چکیده
Chemical vapor deposition (CVD) is a widely used technique to grow solid materials with accurate control of layer thickness and composition. Under mass-transport-limited conditions, the surface of thin films thus produced grows in an unstable fashion, developing a typical motif that resembles the familiar surface of a cauliflower plant. Through experiments on CVD production of amorphous hydrogenated carbon films leading to cauliflower-like fronts, we provide a quantitative assessment of a continuum description of CVD interface growth. As a result, we identify non-locality, non-conservation and randomness as the main general mechanisms controlling the formation of these ubiquitous shapes. We also show that the surfaces of actual cauliflower plants and combustion fronts obey the same scaling laws, proving the validity of the theory 6 Author to whom any correspondence should be addressed. Effect of Thickness on Properties of Copper Thin Films Growth on Glass by DC Planar Magnetron Sputtering
Copper thin films with nano-scale structure have numerous applications in modern technology. In this work, Cu thin films with different thicknesses from 50–220 nm have been deposited on glass substrate by DC magnetron sputtering technique at room temperature in pure Ar gas. The sputtering time was considered in 4, 8, 12 and 16 min, respectively. The thickness effect on the structural, mo...
متن کاملEffects of the Spacer Length on the High-Frequency Nanoscale Field Effect Diode performance
The performance of nanoscale Field Effect Diodes as a function of the spacer length between two gates is investigated. Our numerical results show that the Ion/Ioff ratio which is a significant parameter in digital application can be varied from 101 to 104 for S-FED as the spacer length between two gates increases whereas this ratio is approximately constant for M-FED. The high-frequency perform...
متن کاملPhysical Properties of Reactively Sputter-Deposited C-N Thin Films
This work aims to prepare and study amorphous carbon nitride (CNx) films. Films were deposited by reactive magnetron radiofrequency (RF) sputtering from graphite target in argon and nitrogen mixture discharge at room temperature. The ratio of the gas flow rate was varied from 0.1 to 1. Deposited films were found to be amorphous. Highest Nitrogen concentration achieved was 42 atomic percent whic...
متن کاملEnhanced Photocatalytic Activity of Sol-Gel Derived Coral-like TiO2 Nanostructured Thin Film
To enhance photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants, coral-like TiO2 nanostructured thin films were chemically synthesized through the sol-gel method. The fabricated thin films were characterized by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), nitrogen sorption isotherms, mercury porosimetry measurements, and UV-Vis Diffuse Reflectance Spectrum (DRS). The ...
متن کاملNew fingerprint of the entanglement on the thermodynamic properties
The realization that entanglement can affect macroscopic properties of bulk solid-state systems is a challenge in physics and Chemistry. Theoretical physicists often are considered the entanglement between nearest-neighbor (NN) spins and tried to find its characterizations in terms of macroscopic thermodynamics observables as magnetization and specific heat. Here, we focus on the entanglement b...
